ABOUT

Four years ago, when we started looking for a house in western Massachusetts, one of our main criteria was to have a "soccer field's worth of land." After moving into our house in Montague and achieving that goal, we quickly realized something: a soccer field has a lot of grass to mow, and neither of us are particularly good at—or enjoy—playing soccer. So, we decided that we needed a better sport to play in the backyard to make all the yard maintenance worth it. Over the years, Meghan tried to convince Michael to build all sorts of arenas: a hockey rink, a tennis court, and even a sand volleyball pit. After making little headway with Michael, she finally declared, "Screw it! We're building badminton courts because it takes the least amount of effort, and at least it’s not pickleball." And so, the badminton tournament was born.

DETAILS

Date: Saturday, October 19, 2024

Time: 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm(ish) First match starts at 1:00pm!

Location: 14 Gunn Rd, Montague, MA

We’ll have plenty of food, including grilling, snacks, and drinks to keep everyone energized throughout the day. Spectators are more than welcome, so feel free to bring camp chairs to relax and enjoy the matches—though we’ll have some available as well!

TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE

The tournament will feature eight doubles teams competing across two courts. To ensure everyone has ample playing time, the competition will follow a double-elimination format with both a winners' and losers' bracket. This means that even if a team loses their first match, they'll still have a shot at redemption in the losers' bracket. Every team is guaranteed to play at least two games. We will have enough rackets for everyone.
